    For all the Vodafone people out there. Getting MMS to work.

    2 APNs required.

    Name: Vodafone Internet
    APN: vfinternet.au
    Proxy: 192.189.54.33 210.80.58.3 (not really required but helps network traffic)
    MCC: 505
    MNC: 03
    APN type: LEAVE THIS ALONE – NO SETTING TO GO HERE

    Name: Vodafone MMS
    APN: live.vodafone.com
    MMSC: http://pxt.vodafone.net.au/pxtsend (makes no difference if a ‘/’ goes on the end)
    MMS Proxy: 10.202.2.60
    MMS port: 8080
    MCC: 505
    MNC: 03
    APN type: LEAVE THIS ALONE – NO SETTING TO GO HERE

    Now the crunch bit. There should be two radio buttons. One each next to each APN. Select the MMS one so that it is green. You can put ‘default’ as the APN type for Vodafone Internet if you want. It makes no difference. However, if you do, you must still ensure the MMS APNs radio button is the one selected.

    • admin says:

      Thanks mate! Updated it accordingly :)

    • macmoby says:

      Further testing and it seems that the Voda settings will work but only if you set the APN type to default on the Internet APN. The MMS APN must still be the one selected. If it is set the other way round and you send a message you will find it has automatically been changed. Sorry to muck you around but I am just trying to clamp these settings down. When setting it up just wait about 1 minute for the settings to register on the network.

  4. hughes says:

    you forgot to add ‘iwireless’ (usa) thats a major carrier where im from….

  5. sean says:

    Thanks for the info, I’m still having trouble with Vodafone MMS. Radio button defintely checked and default set to internet APN. Just getting a general error “message could not be sent” any ideas ? MMS definetly enabled by the carrier account

    • macmoby says:

      Sean

      i am sorry to hear that. Nothing else springs to mind. I just did a complete reset of the phone and put the settings in including the amended information and it still works for me. I have no other info to offer at the moment. Sorry.

  6. Flagger says:

    I got 3G and MMS working fine on Virgin Mobile just fine. Sent a MMS via the default messaging application to a mate on Vodafone and he received it straight away :) What I did was combine the 2 Virgin APN’s. Settings are:

    Name: Virgin Internet
    APN: VirginInternet
    Proxy: 202.139.83.152
    Port: 8070
    Username:
    Password:
    Server:
    MMSC: http://mms.virginvibe.com.au:8002/
    MMS Proxy: 202.139.83.152
    MMS Port: 8070
    MCC:
    MNC:
    APN Type:

    Make sure the dot is green back in the APN’s page (Should be if it’s the only one) and you should be set to go :)

  7. sean says:

    With Macboy’s setting I can recieve MMs just not send. I’ll have another look now

  8. sean says:

    okay, i’m an idiot. Too many t’s in htttp. Thanks for the info, I read in another post somewhere that you can change the APN type to mms .When I do that the radio button dissapears, and everything works a treat. This is only tested for vodafone only.

    • macmoby says:

      I find if I add ‘mms’ as the APN type to the MMS settings, yes the radio button disappears (no biggy but a pain if you accidently set the Internet APN and do not realise it) but I find that the Internet APN must no longer work properly because I cannot browse anymore. Further to other things I have said before, I now find I can send and receive MMS when the Internet APN is set as ‘default’ and is selected. The ‘mms’ APN will stay blank of course for APN type as I have stated above is the reason. Some strange behaviour.

  9. Dan says:

    Just on the off chance that someone runs into the same problem as me.

    If you have run Market Enabler to get access to Optus paid apps I found the 3G wouldn’t connect until I switched back to Optus id (50502) via Market Enabler.

    • admin says:

      That could be due to the MNC & MCC settings being filled in on the APN. Try playing around with removing them and then using Market Enabler.

  10. Mark says:

    Hi, I have an iPhone from 3 with the 3 iCap. I pay $49 a month and get phone calls and all that, plus 250mb of mobile data.

    My question is, if I buy the MILESTONE from any of the sites listed in your “buy” section, does that mean I can just take the SIM Card out of the iphone, input the settings on your “APN” page, and i will be able to use the MILESTONE with mobile internet just like I do on my iPhone?

    VERY interested to have this confirmed before I buy a MILESTONE, I just want to be able to use my already paid-for iCap included 250mb mobile data.

    Thanks!

    • admin says:

      Absolutely. You just take it out of the iFail, and whack it into the Milestone then enter the APNs for Three and you’ll be on the road :)

    Got this site from a friend
    I’m In Thailand, and a friend is bringing my new Nexus to me next week. He already tried it out in the states.

    Is there any special process to use it in Thailand? I’m thinking no, but one never knows

    Any insight will be of help

  12. Chris says:

    Hi, just wanted to confirm an Optus setting. My Nexus One seemed to set itself up by default and I noticed on the Optus Internet 2 one you’ve outlined above the APN field is blank, my phone put in “default,supl” in the APN type field, so I should remove that? It didn’t load the Optus Internet Access one there either so guess I need to add him. Just having some trouble’s where I receive some MMS’s but not others and don’t seem to be able to send any :/
    Thanks for the website, great info :)

  13. Nikola says:

    For Three prepaid users you need to set a different APN to the 3netaccess one in order to actually get netaccess:

    Three Prepaid(3) – Internet Access

    * Name: Three Internet
    * APN: 3services
    * Proxy:
    * Port:
    * Username:
    * Password:
    * Server:
    * MMSC:
    * MMS Proxy:
    * MMS Port:
    * MCC:
    * MNC:
    * APN Type: default

    I think this is because you don’t actually get a real IP with prepaid, you get an internal private (RFC1918) address that seems to get a 1-to-1 NAT with a real IP if you have credit. It seems to periodically check your credit and remove the NAT and put in a routing rule to redirect all your port 80 requests to Three servers.

    Given that I am not far from ditching all mobile voice and sms for pure 3G/HSDPA data with VOIP and SIP this is tested and working :)

    Enjoy.

    Nikolai
